lp/mm is a measurement of the TUBE RESOLUTION. However, as every tube being utilized will be in a SYSTEM, the SYSTEM RESOLUTION becomes critical.
The SYSTEM RESOLUTION (measured in: cy/mr) is dependent upon two variables: 1) THE TUBE resolution, and, 2) The quality of the objective lens! (size and speed!) Size Example: 25mm, 50mm, 75mm, 95mm etc. Speed Example: f/1.01, all the way up to (shudder) f/5.6
We use a Hoffman Test Device (cost: $100,000.00+) to certify all of our system findings including resolution. (We have to for US Govt sales). Example: With a 4x PVS-4 lens, we would use a specific adapter mount to mate the lens to the Hoffman Device, then by reading the smallest setting, we would be able to identify the SYSTEM RESOLTION.
Note: We have found a great deal of "error" with people using the smaller "Field Test Kits".
