    The IR-2000 or IR-2000/e ( laptop version ) thermal imaging systems provide a revolutionary approach to thermal analysis. The plug-in card or external module allows you to quickly convert any IBM compatible PC into a high resolution thermal imager.

    With the IR-2000 or IR-2000/e, you can measure temperatures from 17° C - 150° C. With options, temperatures from 5° C to >500° C can be accommodated. Thermal resolution as small as 0.2° C/step is standard with 0.1° C/step over narrow ranges available as an option.

    Spatial resolution is as fine as 1 mm over an area of 7.6cm x 10.0cm; and, with the optional  lens, feature sizes of less than 50 µm are resolvable. Starting at $12,000, no other system can touch it for value.  The IR-2000 package is perfect for Research and Development (r&d), Prototype Manufacture, Design Flaw Analysis, Thermal Management (CPU, IC, Surface Mount Technology, DIMM, Transistors, Thermistors, Resistors, Board Mounted Fuses, and any other electronic components).

The 2000 and 2100 can also be utilized for medical diagnostics imaging

 With the PC2000 or PC2000/e you can:

1. Verify thermal performance and reliability of designs.

2. Perform comprehensive steady-state thermal analysis and reliability studies.

3. Increase product performance and reliability by accurately imaging thermal properties of surface mount, PCB, micro chips, IC's, power supplies, and other  components giving you a solid indication of their effect on surrounding components.

4. Resolve features as small as 50µm ( with optional optics ).

5. Establish thermal boundary bench marks for new or existing products that can be used for process / quality control throughout the entire production run.

6. Obtain an accurate representation of infrared patterns created by thermal convection (heat transfer by means of a fluid in motion {i.e. air, water, etc.}).   The convective property of infrared energy is very hard to measure with traditional thermocouple contact measurement.

  The IR2000 with it's 47,000 pixel, high resolution images allows for reliable comprehensive steady state thermal analysis and reliability studies to be conducted in fractions of the time required with thermocouples, and to a greater degree of accuracy.

IR2000 Imaging Examples

Image of a heat sink and a TO-3 style semiconductor mounted to it.  This was part of an experiment to determine the efficiency of a new mounting material for semiconductors compared to zinc oxide compounds traditionally used. The image shows some localized hot spots on the case of the device, which indicates that heat is not being evenly carried away. Viewing the surface thermal profile also shows a thermal discontinuity between the transistor and the heat sink.

The cursor shows the temperature at a point on one of the PGA devices. The temperature on the case is 108.5° C. Note the flow of heat from the devices into and across the board. The lower the thermal resistance to heat flow the lower the temperature. Conversely, if the resistance is high, the junction temperature will be hotter.

IR-2000 Software

    Couple an IBM-compatible PC with our standard software, and the IR2000 becomes a powerful data acquisition and storage system. Its industry-standard TIFF image format assures compatibility with a wide array of commercial software packages and peripherals.  IR-2000 software is included with every camera system.
