IR~2100 Circuit Board / MED thermal scanner

    The IR2100 and IR2100/e thermal imaging systems combine the proven features of the IR2000 system with a custom lens and other enhancements to provide accurate non-contact temperature measurements of fine pitch, small-geometry components. With the IR2100, you can quickly evaluate thermal behavior of semiconductors, hybrid circuits and multichip modules, measuring features of 0.002 inches or less. And the lens can easily be quickly removed to convert the system to a conventional IR2000.

NEW! RAZ-IR PCB Infrared Cameras

    Previously this level of spatial resolution was available only in systems costing $60,000 or more. Priced at  $17,000, the IR2100 continues the SPI tradition of leading the industry in price and value. All this in a compact package that requires no cryogenic coolants.

    The IR2100 provides unprecedented versatility at this low price. With the lens installed, it delivers the detailed resolution necessary to isolate thermal problems and verify reliability at the individual component level where thermocouples and temperature probes can't be used. Removing the lens converts the camera to a standard IR2000. You now have a system capable of giving you quick, comprehensive images of circuit boards, power supplies, disk drives, and other system components.

The 2000 and 2100 can also be utilized for medical diagnostics imaging

 With the IR2100 or IR2100/e you can:

1. Verify thermal performance and reliability of designs.

2. Perform comprehensive steady-state thermal analysis and reliability studies.

3. Increase product performance and reliability by accurately imaging thermal properties of surface mount, PCB, micro chips, IC's, power supplies, and other  components giving you a solid indication of their effect on surrounding components.

4. Resolve features as small as 50µm ( with optional optics ).

5. Establish thermal boundary bench marks for new or existing products that can be used for process / quality control throughout the entire production run.

6. Obtain an accurate representation of infrared patterns created by thermal convection (heat transfer by means of a fluid in motion {i.e. air, water, etc.}).   The convective property of infrared energy is very hard to measure with traditional thermocouple contact measurement.

  The IR2100 with it's 47,000 pixel, high resolution images and close focus magnification lens allows for reliable comprehensive steady state thermal analysis and reliability studies to be conducted in fractions of the time required with thermocouples, and to a greater degree of accuracy.

IR2100 Imaging Examples

Image of a heat sink and a TO-3 style semiconductor mounted to it.  This was part of an experiment to determine the efficiency of a new mounting material for semiconductors compared to zinc oxide compounds traditionally used. The image shows some localized hot spots on the case of the device, which indicates that heat is not being evenly carried away. Viewing the surface thermal profile also shows a thermal discontinuity between the transistor and the heat sink.

The cursor shows the temperature at a point on one of the PGA devices. The temperature on the case is 108.5° C. Note the flow of heat from the devices into and across the board. The lower the thermal resistance to heat flow the lower the temperature. Conversely, if the resistance is high, the junction temperature will be hotter.

    Couple an IBM-compatible PC with our standard software, and the IR2000 becomes a powerful data acquisition and storage system. Its industry-standard TIFF image format assures compatibility with a wide array of commercial software packages and peripherals.  IR-2100 software is included with every camera system.
